Yugioh: Tier Rankings For the April 2015 Format

FOR THE UPDATED VERSION OF THE TIER RANKINGS (July 2015 format) CLICK HERE

Hey guys, Chief Siddharth here. The new format for April 2015 is finally here, and now it’s time to rank our scores of archetypes. This post is practically ‘part 2’ of my original prediction. A lot of the rankings have been based off the assumptions and facts stated in the previous post. If you haven’t read it click here. If not, there are some more factors that I’ve taken into account for this tier list.L

  • Nekroz still the deck to beat. Their ability to side nearly any card… including the chaos mirrors makes them powerful. Furthermore, they don’t need to normal summon. Nearly every card in the deck has multiple searchers. They even have their own walking Vanity’s Emptiness (Djinn Lock). Nekroz will remain the deck to beat.
  • Zefra support boosts respective archetypes. See for yourself.
  • Chaofeng to boost Yang Zing. I’ve explained this in the last article, that Chaofeng will buff up a semi-powerful archetype. Yang Zing will surely be among the best.
  • Heroes to get many boosts too. Elemental Hero Blazeman, Masked Hero Anki, welcome to the TCG. The Heroes will make their serious comeback.
  • Shaddolls will come good, but won’t return to their untouchable status. El Shaddoll Anomalilith can surely spark a revival, but the extent of which remains shrouded in mystery.
  • U.A, BA will keep going. The TCG exclusive athletes are receiving more support, and will likely merit a few tops. Burning Abyss support should be enough to fend off any resistance from below too.
  • Infernoids Rise, Qlips fall. Infernoids will be the meta one day, and increasing support will ensure so. As for Qliphorts, they’re position on the list is due to the low amounts of play they are predicted to receive.
  • Volcanics cease to exist. They did well, but with Emptiness back to 1 Volcanics are all but dead again.

Remember, this list is my opinion and is based off previous YCS and Regional tops, ARG results, the new ban list, certain comparable trends in the OCG and common opinion. Other than pure mechanics, the tier list takes usage and popularity into account. If you have a valid reason to change the position of a deck within 2-3 weeks of the time of writing, changes will be implemented. Hope you enjoy the large compilation of archetypes. Without further ado, here is the list:

The Tier Rankings are at version 3.0, updated after ARG Detroit.
TIER RANKINGS UPDATED PDF CHIEF SIDDHARTH

For those sithering in anger after seeing the list: comment with your major complaints, then take the rest with a pinch of salt. Opinion varies from person to person, and frankly there is no correct tier list. Even the wikia, which carries the knowledge of the Yugiworld, had to remove the tier rankings due to controversy. My list is an attempt to generalize things, not set the tone.

Some observations you must’ve made are explained:

  • Mind Crush’s popularity renders Exodia OTK decks nearly incompetent.
  • The limiting of Vanity’s Emptiness weakens Anti-Meta, Volcanics and Qliphorts.
  • Harpies lose their spot due to the weakening of Qliphorts. Their Qliphort matchup automatically improved their overall ranking. Not anymore. Same applies to Dark World.
  • ‘Skill Drain’ decks drop- Malefics are out of the picture completely.
  • Hieratic Rulers cease to exist now don’t they. Pure Hieratics maybe?
  • Lightsworn, Six Samurai and Sylvans get a boost. F/L changes make a big difference.
  • Naturia Beast decks improve- making Naturia Beast gives you an auto win against Nekroz, which explains why Six Samurai, Madolche and Naturia decks are slightly higher then they should be.
  • Lower tiers= less accuracy. This holds true, with the first 3-4 tiers being the most accurate representation of general opinion. Don’t take the lower tier rankings too seriously, apart from the fact that tier 7 and 8 decks are in those lists for a reason.

Hopefully this tier ranking makes you realize how many archetypes there are in Yugioh. I mentioned less than half. It also should give you an idea of which deck(s) you should build, and which decks you shouldn’t build.

Recommended: Goblin mathematics

This also acts as a tribute to my favorite Yugiblogger, Yugiold. His rankings were among the last few complete lists, with no other lists meriting any complements for effort. Yugiold’s retirement left a void which I hope to fill… although that will never happen in it’s truest sense.

That’s it for this post guys, hope you enjoyed.

After the release of gagaga sister and possibly mancer in wsup.. Shouldn’t they be a little bit higher? I don’t play that deck but it struck me as odd to have them there considering they’re very competitive and consistent

I’ll add them into it, with so many decks it’s hard to keep up, thanks!

In general, I agree with your ranking but here are 2-3 things you should take under consideration:
1)Chronomally with Nebra Disk will become a lot more consistent. Not saying high-tier 3 deck, but should be around there.
2)You completely left out Melodious(solid tier 4 deck). Great stalling abilities. With a good built they can even be competitive.
3)Heroic Challengers are also getting some serious boost. They will surely be better that X-Sabers or Superheavy Samurai.

I know I am speaking of decks that will get boosted after the superstars release, but your 2nd-place HEROes (totally agree on that) are there because of Blazeman and Anki. And as you said about the lower tiers, rank is really fluid. But I don t believe Rank-Up decks or Aliens are considered to be Tier-8 decks. That was all from me 😛

I currently play mermail and while the order of the list may be questionable, i must say that mermails are definate contenders with many decks that are in the tier 1 list.

Volcanics are still fast in draw power and still top, so I think they are tier 1 with the other top decks. Also, the release of Lose a Turn makes the deck’s match-ups with all the other top decks so much better.

HEROs unfortunately aren’t making such a blast; second seems high.

In my opinion, Blackwings aren’t as good as tier 2, and TG’s aren’t as good as tier 3 because of the major loss of Skill Drain.

I think that Star Seraphs will slowly move up, especially with new support.

Toons for sure will get better.

I haven’t used them in a hot minute, but are Jurracs really that bad that they aren’t even mentioned?… I’m currently running Evols and I know they kick Superheavy Samurais butt (hint hint), just hate to see fellow dino’s get a no mention. Thanks for the list though, I appreciate it 🙂

I’ve played both with and against noble knights a lot, and I can say for certain that they aren’t tier 1, nor do I think they ever will be. Their extra deck monsters are lackluster, and they have absolutely no swarming ability.

Okay, where is Red-Eyes? The new support gave them a massiv boost to be at least Tier 2 or even lower Tier 1. I have big problems when I play against them with my Infernoid deck. And when i play with them, the only Decks which cause me problems are Nekroz, Heros, Shaddoll. Iswarm and U.A. Decks like Tellarknights, Yang zing, Burning Abyss or ritual beasts are crushed in seconds by those black beasts.
Furthermore I think Archfiends should be a higher Tier. It think Tier 5 or lower Tier 4 would be appropiate. The Reason for this is, that with Archfiend Heiress and Supply squad, they got pretty descent Search respectively Draw Engines.

And i hate to admit but i think my beloved Dragunitys are way to high in Tier…
They can not compete with any of the other Decks (When they have a solid build) in Tier 3.
They should get to Tier 5. Even the Leyvaten and Light and Darkness Dragon Combo can’t rescue them from being outclassed of nearly everything above Tier 5

Not trying to sound mean/annoying/wtv. These are just my opinions, and I’m pretty sure I’m right about a lot of them.

    1 Nekroz ok
2 Heroes hell no XD tellarknioghts crush heros so easily. Dark Law is easy to get rid of
3 Burning Abyss BA is tier 2 at most.
    4 yang zing tier 2
5 shaddoll dolls are the second best deck of the format you scrubs
6 infernoid noids are tier 2
7 tellarknight much higher than 7
    8 ritual beasts i guess? O.o
9 evilswarm they are not even tiered….
10 fire fist not even tier 2 lmao
11 qliphort nope. they’re down to tier 2 now
12 U.A. what the fuck? U.A. aren’t even played nowadays
13 yosenju not anymore with vanity at 1
14 noble knight this is just the most random shit i’ve ever seen… knights aren’t tiered….
15 lightsworn noble knights are better than lightsworn. ok
16 monarch nope. Monarchs are a rogue deck. Not even close to being tiered
    17 bujin not tiered
    18 madolche not tiered
19 sylvan no one even plays sylvans…?
20 geargia sorry nope. Geargias cant otk anymore.
21 mermail prince is still ocg, so no
22 six samurai I wish,. but not anymore. Naturia Beast doesn’t suddenly make them tier just because of nekroz.
    23 chaos dragons ehhhhh…. no?
24 gadget theyre not even tiered with pendulums.
25 dark world theyre consistent, but thats not enough, so no
26 blackwing blackwings are soooo much higher lmao
    17 agents agents fucking suck
28 harpies harpies are not tiered anymore
29 fire king one support card does not all of a sudden make them “good”

You should add Yubel decks to the list. my personal opinion is that it should be somewhere in the high tier 3 if not 2’s. Its a very underrated deck type but can definately hold its own. especially against alot of the decks in the tier 2 and 3 ranks listed above.

I really enjoyed the raging too lol decks aren’t ranked anyways. its just based off opinions. But by all means….*grabs popcorn* let the show go on xD

Haha galaxy in number 52 tier 4?.. Well theres nothing i can do about it coz its tcg list but in ocg my on galaxy deck is cursed with cyber dragon infinity and number 23 lancelot, w/c both can negate any card effects stoping u for playing while the attacking directly and destroying a monster(number 23) that even top tier decks (nekroz, tellarknights, heroes etc) gets punished by it.. I even put full of anti monster combo(fiendish, compulse, torrential, solemn, vanity etc) in the deck to ensure that my opponent will really not do any play while hitting him w/ 4k atk monsters..

I think you should boost galaxy on the list to low tier 2.they received heavy support in world super stars. They got Galaxy soldier, who does 4 things. One he gets Galaxy eyes dragon to grave. Two he is a free special summon. 3 he searches on summon. And 4 he is an easy xyz into pleiades. Also he counts for Galaxy expedition adding immensely to the consistency of the deck. Second, tachyon transmigration adds safety to the deck. A free vanity’s call that can be activated from the hand if you make a tachyon dragon. Counter trap. Shuffles into deck instead of destroying, making it a huge counter to qli hero and burning abyss

I’d say that Karakuri deserve a Tier 4. With cards such as Solar Wind Jammer and Instant Fusion, it’s relatively easy to summon x3 Steel Shoguns in 1 turn.

Even though qliphorts are weakened now theu are still ridiculously powerful and even if they werent harpies cam tech in anti-spell fragrance to use with hunting ground and easily beat infernoids, nekroz, etc. So they deserve higher tier2 or low tier 1

Monarchs are exploding with support cards… But tier 2 is way too high for them… Cybers squash them… Idk see how their tier 2 and Ancient Gears are alot more consistent than roids or God decks I don’t see why they’re above Ancient Gears…
